Prescriptions

Repeat Prescriptions

This Practice does not accept verbal requests for repeat prescriptions. They can only be ordered in writing by ticking the required items on the right hand side of your prescription sheet, and posting through box in the main Reception area between 8.30 am and 5.30pm or requesting online if you have acceess.  Please consider this as it saves ringing the Surgery to ask.

If you need to have your prescription posted back, please provide a stamped addressed envelope.  This service will be phased out when we bring a new version of the Electronic Prescribing Service in the summer of 2019 as you will be able to go to any Pharmacy for your medication without a prescription.

Repeat prescriptions with no outstanding mediation reviews, can only be collected after a minimum of 48 hours following receipt unless you are on the Electronic Prescribing service which means you can just go to your chosen Pharmacy and it will be available digitally (no paper required) and if a chemist delivers your medication, you should allow extra time delivery.

Non-urgent advice: Notice

IF YOU DO NOT ALREADY USE ELECTRONIC PRESCRIPTION SERVICES BY SUMMER 2019 PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT YOU WILL BE MOVED ONTO THIS. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUERIES SPEAK TO OUR RECEPTION TEAM

Prescription Charges

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

From 1 April 2009, the charges are:

  • Prescription (per item): £7.20
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £105.90
  • 3-month PPC: £28.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.  The charge for a single prescription item is £7.20, whereas a three month PPC will cost you £28.25 and a 12 month PPC £105.90.

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.
